About 60 National Democratic Congress (NDC) MPs have added signatures to a petition to overturn the party’s decision to reconstitute Haruna Idrissu and other minority leaders in parliament.

A source close to the group said the petition was addressed to party leaders to overturn a decision to change minority leaders in parliament.

The group said it was pleased with the achievements of Haruna Idriss and other minority leaders and wanted them back.

The group argued that the party was trying to replace its most experienced leaders with less experienced leaders and that it needed to reconsider its decision.

Meanwhile, about 77 NDC MPs also signed a petition supporting the party’s decision to change the leadership of parliament. They said the appointment of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson as the new minority leader is a first step in the right direction.

The MPs said this at an emergency meeting in parliament with the National Chair of the NDC, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and the Secretary General Fifi Fiavi Kwetey.

Former Deputy minister of finance and ranking member Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has been appointed as the new minority leader to stand in place of Haruna Idrissu.

Mr. Emmanuel Almar Kofi Bua, a former energy minister and senior member of the Trade and Industry Committee, has also been appointed as the new Deputy minority Leader, while Mr. Kwame Agbodza will become Minority Chief of whip.

MP of Banda, Mr. Ahmed Ibrahim, is retained as the minority’s first deputy Whip, while MP of Ada, Comfort Doyo Cudjoe-Ghansah, is the minority’s second deputy Whip.

The replacement of the NDC’s minority leader was included in a letter to Parliament Speaker Alban Bagbin on 23 January 2023.
