The Cry of Guntingli: A Community’s Plea for Sanitation

Guntingli, a thriving community in the Yendi Constituency, is home to over 7,000+ residents. Despite its size and potential, the community is plagued by numerous developmental challenges, with sanitation being a pressing concern. A refuse dump container, located a stone’s throw away from the Yendi Municipal Assembly, has been left unattended, its contents spilling onto the ground, emitting a putrid stench that affects the entire community.

The Yendi Youth Parliament, determined to address this issue, approached the assembly member for the electoral area, Hon. Mohammed Mahi Darifu. However, the response was disheartening. According to Hon. Darifu, the assembly’s lorry, responsible for evacuating the rubbish, has broken down, and there are no funds to repair it.

This situation is a stark reminder of the sanitation challenges faced by many communities in Ghana. The lack of adequate waste management infrastructure and resources has led to the proliferation of dumpsites, posing serious health and environmental risks

The people of Guntingli are appealing to stakeholders and duty bearers to come to their aid. The situation demands urgent attention, and it is imperative that the necessary resources are mobilized to evacuate the rubbish and provide a sustainable solution to the community’s sanitation challenges.
