WAEC Debunks Education Minister’s Claim on WASSCE Results Release Date.

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has contested the Education Minister’s claim. The Minister asserted that the 2024 WASSCE results will be released on December 29th. This has happened in a shocking turn of events.

According to John Kapi, the director of public affairs at WAEC, the council has not issued any statement confirming the release date. This revelation contradicts the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s, earlier statement that the results would be released on December 28th or 29th during a media engagement. The minister had assured the public of sufficient government support for WAEC. This support was to facilitate the timely release of the results.

However, WAEC has clarified that it is still awaiting additional funds. These funds are needed to cover operational expenses. The expenses include payments to supervisors, invigilators, and exam material suppliers.

The council has requested GHc35 million from the Ministry of Education. This will enable it to fix broken-down scanners. It also needs to conclude scanning of objective test answer cards and process the results. There is a discrepancy between the Education Minister’s statement and WAEC’s position.

This has raised concerns about the transparency of the examination process. It also questions the accountability involved. It is essential for WAEC to provide timely and accurate information to stakeholders to avoid unnecessary anxiety and speculation.
