Land and natural Resources Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor said a task force set up by the government had developed an earthquake preparedness strategy for the country.
According to him, the current strategy has been extensively reviewed and is fit for purpose.
During his press conference on February 28, 2023, the Minister of Lands assured that the government is working around the clock to ensure that the country can cope with such natural disasters should they occur.

They’ve done a great job, and they’ve done a lot of work in Ghana’s earthquake preparedness strategy. And he’s been presented to the cabinet many times, he’s been examined and interrogated many times.
Indeed, we now have an earthquake preparedness strategy that I believe is fit for purpose.
He added, “A statement was even made in Parliament to assure the people of Ghana about the earthquake preparedness strategy.
As you know, the Ghana Geological Survey has some monitoring related to earthquakes and it is an agency under the ministry.
I myself issued a statement in Parliament following this minor earthquake to update the country’s earthquake preparedness. So I can assure you that the government is taking every step under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo to ensure that we are ready and that we have measures in place to protect the people of Ghana.
He urged the people of Ghana to pray to avoid any possible earthquake.
“I think one of the areas of preparation is prayer because the earthquake problem can be in God’s hands. It’s an act of God, we are a God-fearing country and the good lord has been very good to us, let’s keep hoping the Minister says.
Parts of the capital Accra in 2022 experienced several earthquakes.
