Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia is interested in signing Mohamed Salah, but Chris Sutton has advised the Egyptian superstar not to consider leaving Liverpool.
Mohamed Salah’s decision to switch from Liverpool to Al-Ittihad this summer, according to Chris Sutton, would be “scandalous”.
The Saudi Arabian club is prepared to offer the Egyptian superstar a contract that would surpass Cristiano Ronaldo’s £173 million annual pay at Al-Nassr.
Salah’s agent, Ramy Abbas Issa, confirmed earlier this month that the attacker “remains committed to LFC,” while Reds manager Jurgen Klopp also brushed down suggestions that Salah would be moving.
In recent weeks, Salah has been strongly linked with a move to the Saudi club Al-Ittihad. State-owned station KSA Sports TV even said that Salah’s final match for the Reds would be Sunday’s 2-1 victory against Newcastle.
This summer, the Reds have already lost a number of their top players to the Middle East. While Fabinho was signed by Al-Ittihad, who hope to pair the Brazilian with Salah for the upcoming season, club captain Jordan Henderson joined Al-Ettifaq.
Additionally, Sadio Mane joined Ronaldo at Al-Nasr after one failed season with Bayern Munich, and Roberto Firmino left Anfield as a free agent and joined Al-Ahli.
New rumours on Tuesday suggest Joe Gomez may also be headed to the Middle East.
The Saudi window, like those in all of European football, is still open through September 20, although the Premier League window closes on Friday.
“In my opinion, Mo Salah cannot currently leave Liverpool and go to Saudi Arabia,” Just based on the timing of it,” former striker Sutton said on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast.
