FIFA have unveiled a 14-player shortlist for the Best Men’s player award for 2022.

FIFA have revealed 14-player shortlist for The Best Men’s Player award for 2022.

The world football governing body has announced that this year’s award will be done based on performances from the start of the 2021/2022 season til the end of the 2022 World Cup.

After leading Argentina to glory in Qatar, Lionel Messi is name on the shortlist without no doubt. He was the second runner in last year’s award to Robert Lewandowski, who has also been nominated again.

Manchester city forward Julian Alvarez who is among the squad of Argentina joined Messi for The Best award. The forward is joined the club mates Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland who happens to be shortlisted.

The only other player nominated lately playing their club football in England is Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, all though former teammate Sadio Mane, now of Bayern Munich, is too shortlisted.

Also the PSG stars Kylian Mbappe, Neymar and Achraf Hakimi have all been rewarded with nominations.

European champions Real Madrid have three players that has been shortlisted, with Luka Modric, Vinicius Junior and Ballon d’Or holder Karim Benzema making the cut.

Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham who is of age 19 years has also been shortlisted.

Voting for the award is divided into four categories – media representatives, national team coaches, national team captains and fan votes. Each category will have 25% of the overall vote.
