Meaning of lesson plan
Teaching without a lesson plan is like traveling without knowing where you are going.Lesson planning is essential for effective curriculum implementation, because effective teaching requires you to plan and prepare your lessons.
Therefore, when planning a lesson, keep in mind what to teach, how to teach, resources to use, and assessment strategies.
Although teachers perform many roles in their daily activities, the reality is that topics and classroom situations change rapidly, so teachers need to change their approach to keep up with those changes.
This means teachers must be professional and keep up with innovations in teaching methods for their subject.
Preparing for the lesson by writing lesson notes or lecture notes is important to teachers and learners in the following ways.
The importance of lesson plan
1. It is a guide to lesson preparation:
This allows teachers to become familiar with the topics being taught. As you prepare for your lesson, it’s time to make some important decisions.
These decisions include:
⚫The most suitable teaching materials to use;
⚫The most appropriate teaching methods to apply and the order in which the learning material is presented. So a lesson note serves as a guide to lesson preparation.
2. It is a guide to effective teaching: Teaching is only considered effective when it achieves the set goals. To do this, goal setting should always be your focus in the teaching process.
3. Save time: Since the lesson notes guide the teacher to the relevant points of the lesson, he avoids detours. In this way, precious time is saved.
It is normal for a teacher not to plan his or her lessons. Such a teacher is disorganized and uncertain in his delivery. Sometimes he finishes class when he’s half-way through the lesson.
He may continue to waste time on irrelevant, and sometimes off-topic, examples and illustrations. But when you plan your lessons by writing lecture notes, all these problems are minimized.
4. Energy saving: Lesson notes with relevant points help teachers avoid the possibility of going off topic. It also helps him conserve some energy.
In fact, if you don’t prepare for your lesson, you can talk too much about irrelevant things and end up with a headache.
But when you’re armed with a lecture, you get straight to the point and say it out loud
5. It serves as a reminder: People can forget, but with lesson notes at your fingertips, you can easily look up information you may have forgotten.
This is usually easy to do because lesson notes are detailed or sketchy with key points or procedures so they can be seen at a glance.
However, you shouldn’t get into the habit of looking at your course notes all the time. Otherwise, students may get the wrong impression of you.
